GoHighLevel AI Employee Cost: The Real 2026 Number

GoHighLevel AI Employee cost in 2026: $97 per month per sub-account plus usage and phone fees. The full stack math and what the same AI costs wired direct.

By RyMac

The GoHighLevel AI Employee costs $97 per month per sub-account on the Unlimited plan, or $50 per month per sub-account on the Growth plan, on top of your base GoHighLevel subscription of $97 to $497 per month. Those numbers come straight from GoHighLevel's own pricing page. And they are only the cover charge.

Every affiliate review quotes the $97. Almost none of them add up the whole bill. So let's do the thing nobody does: total the stack, then compare it to what the same AI costs when you wire it straight to the model providers.

How much is the GoHighLevel AI Employee?

$97 per month, per enabled sub-account, for the Unlimited tier. $50 per month, per sub-account, for the Growth tier with monthly limits. Per GHL's own help center pricing guide, Unlimited gives you "unlimited usage across Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI, and Content AI" for each location you turn it on for.

Read that middle part again. Per sub-account. Not per agency.

If you run 1 sub-account, it is $97 per month. If you run 10 client sub-accounts, it is $970 per month. The AI Employee is not 1 employee. It is 1 employee per apartment, and you pay rent on each one.

There is also a third option: skip the flat plans and pay per use, "billed at token cost based on the models and actions used" (GHL's words). More on what those rates look like in a minute.

What does the AI Employee actually include?

It bundles GHL's AI features into 1 add-on: Voice AI, Conversation AI, Reviews AI, Content AI, Funnel AI, and Workflow AI. The Unlimited plan covers unlimited usage of the core 4 (Conversation, Voice, Reviews, Content) under a fair use policy.

In plain terms:

  • Voice AI answers phone calls and books appointments
  • Conversation AI replies to SMS and web chat
  • Reviews AI responds to Google reviews
  • Content AI writes emails, posts, and page copy
  • Funnel AI generates funnel pages
  • Workflow AI makes decisions inside automations

That is a genuinely useful feature set. The problem is not what it does. The problem is what sits on top of it.

What are the usage charges on top?

"Unlimited" does not mean your bill stops at $97. Two things keep the meter running.

First, phone charges. GHL's help doc says it plainly: "Phone System charges still apply to phone calls, even when Voice AI (Inbound) is covered under the AI Employee Unlimited subscription" (source). Every minute your AI receptionist talks, telecom fees bill separately. The pricing page carries the same asterisk: "usage based charges apply."

Second, the pay-per-use rates if you skip the flat plan. Third-party breakdowns of GHL's metered pricing report Voice AI at $0.13 per minute and Conversation AI at $0.04 per AI response, with Workflow AI steps at $0.05 per execution. Calls round up. A 20-message chat conversation runs about $0.80 in AI responses alone.

Hold onto that $0.04 per message number. It matters in a second.

What does the full GoHighLevel AI stack cost per month?

A 10-client agency on Agency Pro pays $1,467 per month before a single phone minute: $497 for the platform plus $970 for AI Employee across 10 sub-accounts. That is $17,604 per year, every year, forever, and the meter for call minutes and SMS still runs on top.

Here is the stack most reviews never total:

Line item Monthly cost
Agency Pro plan $497
AI Employee Unlimited x 10 sub-accounts $970
Phone minutes, SMS, number rental metered on top
Total before usage $1,467

Even a solo operator on the $97 Starter plan with 1 sub-account pays $194 per month before usage. That is the pattern we broke down in the true cost of GoHighLevel: the sticker price is the door, and the real bill lives behind it.

This is the sublet problem. You rent the apartment (the platform). Then you rent the furniture (the AI). Then you feed the meter (usage). 3 layers of rent, and you own none of it.

What does the same AI cost wired direct?

Fractions of a cent per conversation. The AI Employee is not GoHighLevel's AI. Under the hood it is the same class of models anyone can call directly, and the direct prices are public.

OpenAI's pricing lists GPT-4o-mini at $0.15 per million input tokens and $0.60 per million output tokens. Anthropic's pricing docs list Claude Haiku 4.5 at $1 and $5 per million, and include a worked example: about 3,700 tokens per support conversation, roughly $37 per 10,000 conversations. That is $0.0037 per full conversation. Not per message. Per conversation.

Now compare. GHL's metered rate is reported at $0.04 per AI response. A 10-response chat costs $0.40 through the platform and well under a penny wired direct. The model provider gets the pennies. The platform keeps the markup.

Voice is the same story. An owned AI voice agent stack runs roughly $0.10 to $0.15 per minute all-in (model, voice, telephony), while platform-metered voice AI across the industry lands anywhere from $0.25 to over $1.00 per minute once every layer takes its cut.

This is the whole reason Allodra exists. You buy the code once, you own the license, and the AI wires straight to OpenAI or Anthropic with no middleman markup. The infrastructure runs on free-tier enterprise services (Google Cloud, Cloudflare, GitHub, Vercel), so there is no monthly platform rent and no growth tax when you add sub-accounts. Charter access starts at $900 one-time. That is less than 1 month of the 10-client stack above.

Can you resell the AI Employee to clients?

Only with markup if you pay for the $497 plan. GHL's help doc states your agency "needs to be on the $497/mo plan to rebill AI Employee usage" with your own margin. On the $297 plan you can pass costs through at cost, but the profit switch lives behind the top tier.

So the resale play GHL pitches (charge clients $300 per month for an "AI employee" that costs you $97) has an entry fee: $497 per month for the plan that unlocks it. Your margin is real, but it is rented margin, same as the white-label pricing structure where every upgrade to your business runs through their toll booth. When you own the stack instead, what you charge for AI automation is 100% yours, because there is no $97 landlord line item under every client.

Is the GoHighLevel AI Employee worth it?

If you are staying on GHL anyway and run 1 or 2 sub-accounts, yes, $97 flat beats metered billing once you pass roughly 40 to 60 AI interactions a month. It is a fair deal inside the rental. That is an honest answer and most reviews stop there.

But zoom out. The AI Employee is the clearest picture of the rental model you will ever get: models that cost fractions of a cent, resold to you at $0.04 a message or $97 a month per door, with the profit lever locked behind a $497 plan. Every client you add raises your rent. That is the growth tax, working exactly as designed.

The models are cheap. The wiring is not hard. The only expensive part is the landlord.
